“Miranda Neuggy Light” Typeface Design
Friedrich Neugebauer Inspired Roman Capitals Typeface
Calligraphy is the perfect combination of graphic design and fine art. I get to flex my keen eye and design muscles while using fun papers and other surfaces, pencils, pens, markers, inks, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, the list goes on.
I began to study calligraphy in 2013 because I wanted to design typefaces. I created my first font for a t-shirt design in Reggie Ezell’s 26 Seeds A Year To Grow (2015) class in Louisville, KY. “Miranda Neuggy Light” is inspired by roman capital calligraphy by Friedrich Neugebauer, an Austrian graphic designer and calligrapher.
This is my only typeface to date. Lately, the artistic side of calligraphy (watercolors, gilding, preparing vellum, cutting and writing with quills, etc.) has been my focus but I plan to design more typefaces.
