Please join me for Yin Yoga at Hot Yoga of East Nashville! It is one of my favorite practices to do and lead. I am subbing for the wonderful Kimberly Hart.
Most forms of yoga today are dynamic, active practices (Hot-26 & Power Flow) designed to work our muscles. That is only half of the body. Our muscles are called the “yang” tissues. Yin Yoga allows us to work the other half of our body, the deeper tissues of our ligaments, joints, bones, and fascia (the connective tissue that surrounds and holds every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fiber, and muscle in place), the “yin” tissues.
Yin Yoga is open to all levels and has roots in Chinese Medicine. Meridians are energy channels in the body. If these channels become blocked it can throw us out of balance. Yin Yoga postures help to open these channels. Yin is slow and the poses are held for 1–5 minutes. It is grounding and peaceful. The longer we stay and breathe in a pose the further our bodies relax and release into it. Yin and all types of yoga are not always comfortable but we can’t grow if we don’t step out of our comfort zone.
