Intro to Gothic Calligraphy

  • Little Art House Hillsboro Village 2106b Acklen Avenue Nashville, TN, 37212 United States (map)

Mondays, January 9, 16, 23, 30

Gothic calligraphy originated in Europe during the 1200s. It was not only used for religious works, but also for literary and university texts. Known for its tall, narrow, and thick letterforms that create a fence-like texture, scribes could write quicker and produce more books. In 1455, Gothic calligraphy was used to design the moveable type to print Johann Gutenberg’s Bible. The Gutenberg Bible allowed the mass production of books that sparked the printing revolution in Europe.
