Stop and smell the roses as Miranda teaches you beginning botanical art! This 2-day workshop invites you to relax and enjoy the plant world in a creative way and encourages self-expression during the process. You will learn how to study, draw, and color your favorite botanicals.
Full-color handouts on the topics covered and step-by-step instruction will be provided.
DAY 1
During the morning session we will cover:
What are the differences between Botanical Illustration and Botanical Art?
How to examine plant life in detail
Lighting and staging plant life
How to create your space for studying, drawing, and painting live plants
Basic composition and drawing techniques with graphite
How to transfer a drawing with tracing paper and graphite
During the afternoon session we will cover: texture, shading, mixing and blending techniques with colored pencils.
DAY 2
During the morning and afternoon sessions we will cover: watercolor techniques and adding fine details.
During the afternoon session, Miranda will demonstrate fun masking and background techniques that can be applied to your work in class.
Students are encouraged to please have 1–2 small plants that they would like to study. These can be small clippings, 2–3 flowers in a small vase, or a small potted plant. Think about the space you have and go with that.
Students are encouraged to keep a multimedia journal to practice techniques during and after class.
